Emme’s gems #30

Life cannot be an

if your body is

inpain, tired, weak, tight,

imbalanced, restless and

enslaved to bad movement

A lot of people whom I have encountered in the past 20 years of teaching live in a body which feels and functions way below how we as human beings are supposed to feel and function in our physical body.

As much as it hurts me to sense the quiet cry of someone who is looking for pain relief, energy and strength in their life, many of us need to first get to this point where we finally wake up and start to take responsibility for our health and wellbeing. All we want is to feel better, and the path we take on is a journey that bears the promise that life can feel like an adventure.

Yoga carries this promise. However, you will not get it by merely attending random yoga classes at your convenience and copying and imitating physical movements on your mat the best way you know how.

Sadly, that is what most people get sold nowadays in many mainstream yoga classes. It is by growing body and self-awareness that we can make the necessary changes physically, mentally and emotionally. And for that, we need to immerse ourselves in learning and studying before “doing.” Otherwise, we will be jumping from one fitness/health/wellbeing technique to the next getting increasingly frustrated and even more confused.

Take away for this new week: make a decision not simply to be a participant in an exercise/yoga class, but to learn to take care of yourself by finding out who you are, where you are going and then embarking on a path to a dedicated practice which will get you there.

If you need guidance or motivation to get on this journey, you know where to find me.
